Manchester United could add another Argentine, La Liga star will join Rojo & Di Maria

During the last winter transfer window there were several reports in Portugal about a Manchester United move for Nicolas Otamendi. In all honesty at the time it sounded like agent guff given the panic nature of Otamendi trying to get a move away from his then club FC Porto. The Portuguese club were keen too, Otamendi had a contract expiring in June 2015 and showed little will to have it renewed, Porto didn't want to lose out on a transfer fee. source : http://sportwitness.ning.com

There was talk of Manchester United paying €20m+ for Otamendi which sounded vastly overpriced. Anyway, the player eventually signed for Valencia for about €12m right at the end of the transfer window. Deal over for Manchester United and Otamendi happy at his new club.

Wrong. The deal had missed the deadline, it was done a couple of days afterward with Otamendi still desperate to leave Portugal, and the defender couldn't be registered for the Spanish league. He was then loaned out to Atletico Mineiro, where he could be registered, until the summer.

Otamendi is now actually playing for Valencia and local newspaper Super Deporte claim Manchester United have been watching games and him specifically and are therefore still interested in taking him to Old Trafford.

The first Otamendi rumours seemed far fetched, as did the claims of Manchester United making a bid, but scouting him isn't such a bad idea. Manchester United could be set to add another Argentine star to their pair of Marcos Rojo and Angel di Maria, but Otamendi would have to impress a great deal.
