Manchester United have reportedly reignited their interest in PSV Eindhoven's Zakaria Bakkali after the winger snubbed fresh contract talks with the club.
According to the Daily Mail, the Belgian has refused to sign a new deal and that has resulted in him being demoted to PSV's reserve team. source: ibtimes.co.uk
The 18-year-old winger, who is in the final year of his contract, can start negotiating with interested clubs from January 1. The impressive youngster is sure to have a long line of clubs queuing up to try and land his services.
Apart from the Red Devils, Premier League rivals Liverpool and Arsenal were also interested in signing him during the summer transfer window.
However, the report claims that the PSV player was close to joining Atletico Madrid in the summer, but pulled out at the last minute after he heard about United's interest in signing him.
The Old Trafford club can now agree a pre-contract with the winger anytime after 1 January 2015 and land him on a Bosman next summer.
Bakkali, who came through the youth ranks at the Dutch club is yet to make a first-team appearance for the senior team this season, and he is currently out of action with a groin injury. However, with his contract situation up in the air it looks unlikely he will make an appearance this season unless he agrees to negotiate a new deal with PSV.
The winger is a full Belgian international, following his debut in 2013, but is yet to add to that single appearance and was also not part of the squad for the 2014 World Cup. Bakkali is also the record holder for the youngest hat-trick scorer in the history of the Eredivisie.
