Angel Di Maria: Why I left Real Madrid to join Manchester United

ANGEL DI MARIA says he joined Manchester United to help them secure a return to the Champions League.

United smashed the British transfer record in August to sign Di Maria from European champions Real Madrid for a whopping £59.7m. The Argentina winger was one of SIX major summer additions at Old Trafford as new boss Louis van Gaal attempted to overhaul a United squad which had slumped to a seventh-place finish last season. And Di Maria admits the challenge of clinching a return to Europe's elite competition for United lured him to Manchester. "I knew when I came to Manchester that I wouldn't be playing in the Champions League but what I was thinking, what I think now, was that I would do my bit to help my team-mates qualify for the Champions League so that the next year we would be back playing important games," the 26-year-old said. "I think that will happen." source: dailystar.co.uk
After a blistering start to life at United, Di Maria has struggled in recent weeks and is now without a goal in almost two months.

But Di Maria, who hobbled off after just 14 minutes of yesterday's 3-0 home victory over Hull, remains pleased with how his United career is developing.

"I think things have gone well since I got here. I'm doing all right with goals and assists," he told the Daily Mail.

"There were one or two games when I wasn't playing at the same level as I had at the start, but I guess that's pretty normal when I'm getting used to things, isn't it?

"The truth is that I'm pleased to be here in Manchester. Being here is something really important for me, so from that side of things I'm really pleased. The rest will come."
