The biggest surprise with this year's CHL, Norwegian Storhamar, travels to Turku and challenges TPS around the first matchday from the Round of 16.
Storhamar won the Group M and beat Red Bull Salzburg 6-3 on aggregate inside the Round of 32. TPS won their group too and beat JYP Jyväskylä inside the first play-offs round.
TPS can be a familiar team for Storhamar's head coach, Aleksander Smirnov. The Russian coach played three seasons in Turku inside early 90s'.
"Of course it is especially nice and special will be able to meet TPS. I recognize some faces from time in Finland and it is rather nice to fulfill them. It's clear which it was a long time ago, nevertheless it always brings up old memories. I know were coming to a nice place, a gorgeous arena along with a great setting to get a battle", Smirnov says for the team's website.
Storhamar started strong within their domestic campaign too, but have since fallen for the middle on the pack within the Norwegian Ligaen. The team has become placed sixth.
The home team TPS seems pretty strong too this coming year. They are 5th inside Finnish Liiga after 19 rounds.
TPS Turku desires to win because they start the series in Finland, however the team's head coach Ari-Pekka Selin doesn't expect the overall game to be easy.
"The moral state is very important and it will surely be viewed especially from the foot work. It's a big and important game for us", Selin says on TPS' website.
Lauri Tukonen, one with the TPS' biggest offensive players, was injured a couple weeks ago and won't be observed on ice against Storhamar.
