Pep Guardiola takes charge of his first European tie at Manchester City as they travel to Steaua Bucharest for the first leg of their Champions League play-off on Tuesday.

Guardiola tasted victory in his first competitive match as head coach on Saturday, beating Sunderland 2-1 in the Premier League, but now attention turns to Europe as they look to put one foot in the group stages.

Joe Hart has been named in the 21-man squad to travel to Romania, but Yaya Toure, who did not make the bench against Sunderland, has again been left out.

Hart's omission from the starting XI on Saturday raised many questions about his future under Guardiola, with Willy Caballero given the start in goal.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference at the Arena Nationala, Guardiola addressed the absence of Toure, saying: "He is a player of us and he is training amazing, but I was not sure if he was going to play, and so I prefer it if he stays there training in Manchester.

"We travelled with two young guys and for the selection I prefer it to be the young guys than Yaya Toure."

Guardiola sold Toure to City in 2010 and he has made more than 250 appearances for the club

Team news

As well as Toure, Samir Nasri, Wilfried Bony, Eliaquim Mangala, Oleksandar Zinchenko and Jason Denayer have also been left at home.

Summer signings Ilkay Gundogan (knee) and Leroy Sane (hamstring) miss out through injury, as does Vincent Kompany (thigh), but youngsters Angus Gunn, Tosin Adarabioyo and Angelino Tasende have made the trip.

Hart is in the squad and could feature, while Nicolas Otamendi is also available after recovering from a tendon problem.
