The Clarets have made a quiet return to the Premier League bar the 2-0 victory at home to Liverpool just over a month ago.
That looked like the chance for Burnley to build momentum but they've only picked up one point from their next three games, albeit the defeats in that run were at Chelsea and Leicester so they won't be the difference between staying up and going down.
The concern for boss Sean Dyche is that the Clarets fell to 3-0 losses in both of those outings and that is in stark contrast to their incredibly strong defensive record at Turf Moor where they have only conceded five goals in their last 16 home league games.
That stretch of matches includes 13 contests in the Sky Bet Championship but the sequence still deserves respect with no side managing to score more than one goal in those games in Lancashire.
The defensive line-up is settled for Dyche but he does have a big in problem in attack with star striker Andre Gray banned for four matches on the eve of this game for homophobic posts he made on Twitter in 2012.
Gray's absence does leave the Clarets lacking their major goal threat. Burnley have only managed three goals in six games so far this season, Gray scoring one of those, and the attacking alternatives of Sam Vokes and Patrick Bamford won't have Watford sweating too much.
Watford have been hugely impressive in their last couple of outings with a 4-2 win at West Ham followed up with a memorable 3-1 victory over Manchester United at Vicarage Road.
I would be tempted by the over 3/1 for Watford to win this match to nil given Burnley's attacking worries but the Hertfordshire outfit have a defensive record to cause a few concerns.
The Hornets have failed to keep a clean sheet in their opening six matches of this season and they only enjoyed one shutout in their final 11 games of last term so it's asking a lot to show faith in the solidity of their backline.
One man definitely worth a bit of support is Etienne Capoue.
The midfield powerhouse has bagged four goals from his opening five Premier League games this season.
Capoue helped dominate the midfield battle against Manchester United duo Marouane Fellaini and Paul Pogba last time out and he's really shaping up to be the lynchpin in a Watford side that should be targeting a top half finish.
Walter Mazzarri wasn't universally backed as the best man to take the Hornets forward when he replaced Quique Sanchez Flores as manager over the summer but Capoue has explained how his new role further up the pitch has led to more goals under the Italian's tutelage.
Back Capoue to net and I'd expect him to help Watford to another three points.
Burnley will make it far from easy for the Hornets but Gray's suspension is a huge blow as it takes the main goal threat by far away for the Clarets.
The hosts' strong defensive record is also going to be put to the sternest of tests by a buccaneering Watford side that has netted seven goals in their last two games against two of the Premier League's top seven sides from last season.

This is a big game for Burnley because the onus is on them to win it. Their attacking record is poor - they are in the bottom two for shots at goal and shots on target this season.
Watford generally play two up front, or a derivation of that, so if I am Dyche I am thinking we have got to go for it in this one. I think Burnley might nick it too.
