Rennes host Caen in Ligue 1 on Friday night priced as bet365’s 11/10 favourites to keep their push for a European placed finish on track with a win.
This price seems short.
Caen have, after all, been something of the surprise package of the Ligue 1 season. While Patrice Garande’s side succumbed to a disappointing 1-2 defeat at home against Lille last weekend, they prefaced that result with a run of two wins and two draws in the league and sit third in the table, just a point back from second-place Angers.
Indeed, Caen’s W9-D2-L6 record in Ligue 1 thus far positions them seven league places and six points better off than Friday’s opponents and the value in backing an away win is enhanced when one accounts for the fact that Garande’s men have won three and drawn one of their last six road matches in Ligue 1 where Rennes are winless in six on home soil, losing three and drawing three in that sequence.
It is also notable that Caen won this fixture 1-4 on the occasion of the sides’ most recent meeting in Ligue 1 back in January.
That said, Rennes prefaced January’s defeat with a run of three straight wins against Caen and Philippe Montanier’s team have only lost four times in 17 in Ligue 1 this term, winning five and drawing eight.
Tip
Rennes are beginning to resemble draw specialists this term and odds of 9/4 on this one ending level appeal.
However, I fancy Caen to capitalize on the hosts week home form to take all three points: the fact that Rennes have scored in five of their last six home fixtures makes backing an away win with both teams scoring and +2.5 goals appeal at 13/2 and 5/4.
