There’s rarely a good time for a struggling side to head to Sevilla, but Depor might just view this game as an unexpected opportunity to get a result with Sevilla strangely out of sorts. The goals have really dried up for the Andalusian side and there looks to be value in backing this to be a low-scoring game.
They’ve been a really entertaining team to watch for most of the season but for whatever reason Sevilla’s season looks to have hit a brick wall. Another theory for their lack of goals of late is that they simply lack a striker of genuine top quality. No Sevilla player has reached double figures in terms of league goals and right now it seems none of their players are playing with much confidence in the final third.
That’s good news for Deportivo La Coruna, who are likely to park the bus and hope they can emulate fellow strugglers Leganes and Sporting Gijon who have got low-scoring draws on their recent visits to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan. Depor have looked better organised since Pepe Mel took charge and more like a side that could hold firm for 90 minutes. Depor have conceded more than once in only 1 of their 7 games so far under the former Betis boss.
The bookies still seem to be expecting a relatively high-scoring match but the recent games of these sides certainly points the other way. Playing at Barcelona in midweek will have done little to help Sevilla’s tired legs and there have been under 2.5 goals in all of their last five home league matches. Depor have not been in any better attacking shape since they could not find the back of the net in three consecutive fixtures.
Staying safe will thus require a serious turnaround in form for Pepe Mel and his side who currently sits six points adrift of Sporting Gijon in the danger area.
