Wayne Rooney has told Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal he can forget trying to leave him out of Tuesday’s home match against Stoke.
The United captain limped away from Red Devils’ 3-0 win against Hull on Saturday with calf and knee knocks.
Rooney had scored between goals from Chris Smalling and Robin van Persie as United strolled to a third consecutive victory for the first time in almost a year.
The success was tempered by injuries to Rooney and Angel Di Maria, who definitely misses the Stoke fixture and could be out for at least a fortnight. source: mirror.co.uk
But Van Gaal revealed: "Rooney had a kick on the calf and a knock on the knee, but I don’t think it is too much.
"In fact he has said to me already that he shall play on Tuesday, but he always says that. You know him!
"Di Maria for sure will not play on Tuesday, but he knows his body and that he had to come off. So we shall see.”
Van Gaal had given Van Persie a "must do better" warning before the match and still wasn’t totally satisfied with his countryman.
"Every striker needs a goal when he doesn't score for two or three games," Van Gaal said. "I'm happy that van Persie scored, but he can do better. He can pass more than he did."
The United boss added: "This is the first match that we have dominated from the first minute to the last. We had great, creative moments and goals. We played the ball quickly."
Hull manager Steve Bruce, with only one win since the opening day of the season, said: "We knew the second season up would give us difficult moments, but I’m sure we’ll put results together."
