Jorge Mendes to push €30m midfielder to Manchester United in January

At the end of the summer transfer window one of Jorge Mendes' clients told the super agent that he was desperate for a transfer, explain French newspaper L'Equipe on Monday. The problem was that Mendes was busy trying to conclude a deal taking Radamel Falcao to Manchester United and that dragged on for longer than everyone had hoped. There was no time to help the other player.

The one who lost out was Joao Moutinho who, just like Falcao, was at AS Monaco on big wages with not enough fulfilment. Moutinho stayed and has been doing well but he's still very keen to go.

L'Equipe say that Moutinho 'will not miss the opportunity to leave in the next transfer window'. Manchester United are named as an attracted club and with the Mendes connections already in place, the Premier League side are all set for an approach from the agent.

Manchester United have more pressing concerns than Moutinho, and Mendes would have to do quite some sales job to convince Edward Woodward on the potential of a deal, especially in the winter transfer window. AS Monaco want €30m for the player and that sounds quite optimistic for someone they paid less for and who wants to leave the French principality. Moutinho's Manchester United chance perhaps sailed by when he left Porto and chose the Monaco route, he may not find it as easy to move to a genuinely huge club as Falcao has.

The French newspaper say that granting Moutinho's exit wish will be difficult for even Mendes to sort out in January, the Portuguese agent and player may have to quickly move on from any Manchester United ideas and to something more realistic.

Unless Moutinho can double as a defender, he's not what Manchester United need right now. Nevertheless, stranger things have happened, haven't they Radamel. source: sportwitness.ning.com
