Huge boost as Manchester United star declared fit for Southampton clash

Manchester United have received a massive boost before their crunch match against Southampton next week, as captain Wayne Rooney has been deemed fit to play after scans on his knee, Daily Mail reports. source: footballfancast.com

The striker missed United’s 2-1 midweek win over Stoke City after colliding with the advertising board playing against Hull City last weekend, and there were doubts he could also sit out Monday’s clash against the Saints.

But after routine scans on Wednesday, the England international has been given the green light to make his return at the St. Mary’s.

His omission against Stoke gave youngster James Wilson his first start of the season, in which he partnered with Robin van Persie up front.

The Red Devils managed a victory despite a nervy finish to the game at Old Trafford, making it United’s fourth win on the trot and are now only one point behind third place Southampton.

After their impressive season, the Saints have now lost two in a row against Manchester City then Arsenal, and need to avoid defeat on Monday or see United leapfrog them to third.
