Manchester United will be allowed to play loan signing Andy Kellett due to an FA loophole, despite fears the young defender may be ineligible, reports the Telegraph.
Kellett has already played competitively for two clubs this season, meaning – on paper – he would be ineligible to play in official games for United during his six-month loan spell from Bolton Wanderers.
FIFA rulings state that a player can not play competitively for more than two clubs in a season and Kellet played 15 times for League Two side Plymouth Argyle, before making a brief appearance for Bolton against Rotherham United.
However, the Telegraph claim that a loophole will allow Kellett to feature for the Red Devils if they want to play him, as his spell at Plymouth is counted as an emergency loan.
According to the Telegraph’s Mark Ogden, article 5.3 of the FA’s regulations regarding the transfer of players states, that emergency loans only count against a player if he is moving abroad, meaning Kellett can appear for United.
That means that he will be free to play for United’s senior or under-21 team during his six-month spell at Old Trafford. Kellett joined on deadline day in a surprise late swoop, with United defender Saidy Janko moving the opposite way to the Macron Stadium on Monday evening.
