It’s a new season for Leeds and predictably that means a new manager. Former Swansea boss Garry Monk is the latest man to take on the hottest of hot-seats. He did a good job in South Wales and was perhaps unfortunate to lose his position and Leeds go into the new season with perhaps a bit more optimism than they might have in recent years. The loss of Lewis Cook is a big blow but they’ve added plenty of new faces and it’ll be good to see Kemar Roofe, who excelled in League Two with Oxford last season, playing at a higher level. They’ve won 4 of their 5 pre-season games culminating in a 2-1 win over Atalanta last weekend.
QPR are another club hoping to make a challenge for a return to the top flight although like Leeds they are only considered something of an outside bet this term. Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink led them to 9th place last season and the jury is still out on him to some extent with a return of just 7 wins from his 28 games in charge. They’ve lost Matt Phillips and Leroy Fer since but the addition of Jordan Cousins looks a good one and with a full pre-season behind him, the Dutchman may have more success in getting what he wants from the Londoners this season.
There shouldn’t be a great deal between these sides over the course of the season but with home advantage, QPR are certainly the favourites here and the onus will be on them to take the game to Leeds. The Yorkshire club actually picked up more points away than at home last season though and their away games tended to be much more entertaining than their home ones.
Including pre-season, both teams have scored in 10 of Leeds’ last 11 games and backing both teams to score at 5/6 looks to offer value here.
