Southampton vs Liverpool Predictions & Betting Tips, Match Previews England Premier League

Southampton vs Liverpool
England Premier League.
Date: Saturday, 19th November 2016,
Kick-off at 15:00 UK.
Venue: St. Mary’s Stadium, Southampton, Hampshire.

It is almost a fortnight since the Reds destroyed Watford 6-1 at Anfield, with the boredom of yet another international break making it feel like an eternity.

Liverpool are top of the table after 11 matches, and with every week that passes, the more talk there is of a possible title challenge.

The trip to St Mary’s is an never easy one, though, and if Klopp’s men are to pick up all three points, they will have to be at their best.

There is an enticing assortment of odds on offer from the range of sports betting sites ahead of the weekend showdown – here’s where you should be putting your money.

Result

Liverpool have been so dominant at times this season that they are have been odds-on in the majority of their matches.

The bookies obviously see this as a tough outing for Klopp’s men, however, because that isn’t the case this time around.

The Reds are 21/20 to head back up north with a massive win secured – a victory that would mean five wins on the bounce, in all competitions.

Southampton are 5/2 to earn successive Premier League wins at home to the Reds and end their 12-game unbeaten run, following their dramatic 3-2 win last season. The draw is 12/5, which definitely represents good value.

Should you expect Liverpool to dominate at St Mary’s and win both halves, you can get odds of 23/10.

Goalscorers

With Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino returning relatively late from international duty, it may be that Klopp rests at least one of them.

Because of this, Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi will both be eyeing a start, with the former ahead in the pecking order at the moment.

Sturridge is 5/1 to score first and 6/4 to register anytime, and you can’t help but feel his first Premier League goal of the season will come sooner rather than later.

Origi is 11/2 and 17/10, respectively, which looks less inviting, while Sadio Mane is exactly the same odds, as he takes on his former club for the first time.

For the hosts, Charlie Austin has been a reliable source of goals in 2016/17, and the 27-year-old is a tempting 6/1 to open the scoring at St Mary’s.

Shane Long can be a very useful man to come off the bench, so backing him to score last in the game (13/2) is far from the worst bet in the world.

Other Bets

Any game involving Liverpool this season feels guaranteed to have goals in it, as long as you ignore the dull goalless draw at home to Man United last month.

Southampton also have goals in them, with Austin, Long, Nathan Redmond and Dusan Tadic all capable of hurting teams on their day.

Backing both team to score (6/10) is, therefore, highly likely to be a winning bet, with the Reds’ only clean-sheet in the league this season coming in the aforementioned stalemate against United.

If that bet doesn’t tickle your fancy, how about having a punt on the number of goals in the match?

Taking a gamble on over 2.5 goals (7/10) looks a solid bet, but given Liverpool’s ability to score and concede at will, you may want to be a bit more daring.

Over 3.5 is 2/1, over 4.5 is 9/2 and over 5.5 is 10/1. It sounds mad, but the latter could quite easily come in, judging by the opening three months of the campaign.

Prediction: Southampton 2-3 Liverpool
