Kalou opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a header from the center of the box off an assist from defender Mitchell Weiser. He then doubled the lead in the 33rd with another goal, this time a right-footer towards the bottom right corner of the net.
A second yellow card was called on Monchengladbach midfielder Christoph Kramer in the 39th, sending him off the pitch and putting the visitors in a one-man disadvantage.
Kalou then sealed the win with his third goal of the game in the 84th minute off another assist by Weiser.
