Manchester United have once again been strongly linked with a move for Benfica's Enzo Perez by the Portuguese press. This is a story which has been going on for some months but as the January transfer window approaches then a boost is given to the rumour. source: ning.com
Valencia are yet again stated as the other club interested and Benfica, with each passing report, sound like they'd be quite content to receive Perez's buyout clause of €30m - £24m - should someone come forward with it. Record claim that Manchester United have a huge desire for the player and Benfica know that they're able to sign him for just £24m with there being nothing the Portuguese club can do about it. Clauses aren't as easy to manipulate in Portugal as they are in Spain meaning there are few, if any, hurdles which Benfica can throw in the way of deal.
Benfica's barrier to getting that £24m from Manchester United in January would be that midfielder Perez wouldn't be seen as a priority by Louis van Gaal. Perez can play either as an attacking midfielder, a defensive midfielder, or an old fashioned central midfielder.
Should Manchester United see the back of players such as Darren Fletcher and Anderson then Perez would be a brilliant addition and upgrade. However, that all sounds distinctly like a summer thing.
Record say that if Perez is once again left on the shelf he will be offered a new contract by Benfica.
